Why Does Insurance Follow the Car and Not the Person?

In the state of California, insurance follows the vehicle, not the person. It follows the car even if the owner is not there. This is very convenient because it gives you a clear idea of how much coverage you have and where you stand in case of an accident. You can also use your insurance company to check your policy and see if it follows your car. However, it is not recommended for you to use another person’s car without their insurance.

Why does insurance follow the car and not the driver? This is a common question, and you may be wondering how to handle it. If you’re a safe driver, you can use a friend’s car for the weekend. But if you’re not a good driver, the insurance will not follow you. If you need to claim, you’ll have to file a claim against that other person’s insurance.

If you’re renting a car, your insurance coverage may follow the car. If you borrow a friend’s car, you’ll need someone else’s insurance. If a family member drives your vehicle, you may want them to get some car insurance too. Regardless of who’s driving the car, it’s important to have coverage to avoid a hefty bill for repairs.

Although your policy should cover both your car and your driver, you should still keep a record of all drivers who use your car. If you’re ever involved in an accident while driving another person’s car, your coverage will always follow the vehicle. This way, you can claim on the person’s car as well as the car. If someone else crashes your car and causes damages to your car, you’ll be protected up to your policy limits.
