    Soumya Swaminathan is a renowned doctor and scientist who has made significant contributions to the global health and medical research stepnguides fields. She currently serves as the Deputy Director General for Programmes at the World Health Organization (WHO). Born in 1969 in India, Dr. Swaminathan earned her medical degree from the University of Madras and subsequently did her postgraduate studies in pediatrics and child health at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. From there, she went on to filesblast pursue further studies in the United Kingdom, where she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and then completed a Ph.D. in Immunology at the University of Oxford. Throughout her career, Dr. Swaminathan has held a number of influential positions in many of the world’s leading health organizations. She has been the Head of the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, New Delhi; the Director of the National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health (NIRRH) in India; and the Director of the Center for Research in Reproductive Health (CRH) at the Indian forum4india Council of Medical Research (ICMR). In 2018, Dr. Swaminathan was appointed as the Deputy Director-General of Programmes at the WHO, where she continues to work to improve global health and ensure equitable access to health services. She is a strong advocate for universal health coverage, primary health care, and the integration of research into policymaking. She has also spearheaded oyepandeyji initiatives to tackle the challenges of neglected tropical diseases, mental health, and antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Swaminathan has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri Award from the Government of India, the Dr. B.C. Roy Award from the Medical Council of India, and the Indian Council of Medical Research Medal.
