    Introduction

According to Matt Davies Harmony Communities, similar to humans, dogs are susceptible to a few common diseases. While most of these ailments aren’t serious, they can cause serious issues if undetected and left untreated. Let’s check out a few common dog diseases and how to treat them.

    The Diseases

    1. Dental disease – Oral infections are very common among dogs and usually pop up after the age of three. Gingivitis and tartar are common oral diseases while periodontal diseases like abscesses are more serious. Symptoms of most oral diseases include:

    • Loss of teeth.
    • Bad breath.
    • Changes in appetite and refusal to eat dry food.
    • Drooling and pus or blood from the mouth.
    • Lumps under the tongue and on the gums.
    • Bad temper.
    • Discolored teeth and gums.

Treatment for dental diseases usually includes extractions, teeth cleaning, and sometimes, even root canal procedures. To prevent these diseases, you need to visit the vet regularly, at least once or twice a year. Apart from that, you also need to be on top of your dog’s oral care.

    2. Skin infections – All dogs are scratchy and do it on a regular basis. However, if your dog continues to scratch incessantly, you should be concerned. Usually, itchy skin is the result of food allergies. Many dogs have been found to be allergic to soy, corn, and wheat. This can easily be switched by moving to a low-allergen diet or a hypoallergenic diet prescribed by your vet.

If a diet change doesn’t fix the issue, it may be due to a skin infection caused by bacteria and yeast. When that happens, your dog may develop painful sores, known as hot spots. These hot spots are especially painful for dogs with thick fur. You need to get your dog checked at the vet. You may be recommended an antibacterial ointment or a shampoo to treat those allergies and infections.

    3. Vomiting and diarrhea – While the digestive system of dogs is much more robust compared to humans, they may also experience a digestive upset from time to time. These issues should usually be fixed within a couple of days. However, if you notice your dog experiencing diarrhea or vomiting too often, you need to call the vet immediately. Those symptoms may indicate more serious problems like intestinal worms, parvovirus, and parasites. In those cases, your vet needs to diagnose the exact problem and administer the right treatment.

    4. Urinary Tract Problems – Urinary tract infections have obvious symptoms like:

    • Frequent urination.
    • Blood in the urine.
    • Obsessive licking of the genitals.
    • Crying while urinating

If you notice such symptoms, take the dog to your vet. The vet will take a urine sample and send it to a lab to detect the type of infection and prescribe treatments accordingly. Usually, it’s antibiotic treatment.

    Conclusion

Matt Davies Harmony Communities suggests that you soak in all the above-mentioned hertube information and look out for the symptoms of these common diseases. Once you do that, you can easily provide your dog with the appropriate treatment or consult the vet.
